Daddy Time

Jeff has had the unenviable task of being back to work while also helping with nighttime feeds. He keeps saying that he feels like he's missing things at home; so he's always ready to play with Jack when he gets here in the evening. Here are a few pictures from father and son playtime earlier this week:

This past Saturday, we resumed our family ritual of spending Saturday mornings at Starbucks. Jackson was along for the first time, and was happy to do his share to promote the consumption of ridiculously overpriced coffee drinks.

We had a great time just being out of the house, and time got away from us - or at least it got ahead of the number of bottles we had. We ended up buying pre-bottled formula and stopping for a roadside feed.

In spite of the trauma, Baby Jack agreed to leave the house again on Sunday to go to church, where he was swarmed by an adoring public! (But slept right through most of the hubbub.)

Having seen that it IS possible to take your precious baby out into the world fairly safely, Mama dared an outing to the park by herself with baby and stroller. Ice cream was, of course, the motivating factor! (Well, that and the fact that you could actually see the sun!)



If you're keeping count at home, we're getting about 3 to 3 1/2 hours of sleep at a time during the night. He doesn't seem to be bothered by that arrangement at all...

The Learning Curve

Five things we've learned from our first week at home with Baby Jack:
1. 5 minutes of sleep counts as a reasonable nap;

2. Red bottoms make diaper changes a scream - literally;

3. No matter how nicely he whimpers "Feed me," what he actually means is "If you don't give me that bottle in the next 15 seconds, you are going to need Jack Bauer to handle the scale of devastation I'm about to cause."

4. Gas is a powerful smile-starter; and

5. Nothing in the world can make you love your Baby more than a baby.

Baby Jackson!!!

You know how people try to explain something to you over and over again, and you just can't quite get it? Maybe they're telling you what it's like to take off in a plane for the first time, or to drive a car for the first time, or what it's like to eat ice cream. Well, that is absolutely what we've been through over the last four days! We left for the hospital early Sunday morning, for me to be induced into labor (since the wee man hadn't arrived of his own initiative).

After several hours of labor and several scary moments when Jack's heartbeat dropped so low that even the midwife was scared, the doctor decided to deliver him by emergency c-section.

Looking good... The baby, that is!
Needless to say, we were ecstatic!!! And Nana and Papaw were, too...

His looks have changed so much since the first day, and he's less like a prune all the time!

We're all doing fine now. After his checkup today, we were told he has no heart problems. He just needs fattening up!
